employment
March 2005 – Present: The Scout Association. Internet and New Media Producer.
www.scouts.org.uk: Sole designer and developer on The Scout Association UK website which attracts over 1.5 million hits a month to 5,000 pages.
User Diversity: The website has six different sections catering for six year olds to silver surfers. The contrast between ages has given me a deeper understanding of user orientated design. An example of this is the difference between the Cub section www.scouts.org.uk/cubs and the bimonthly Scouting online magazine www.scouts.org.uk/magazine.
Project Management: I project manage a wide variety of website and multimedia projects from concept to delivery using a wide range of digital media.
Publishing System: I have sourced and installed a web publishing system enabling non technical copywriters and editors to independently update their section’s content. Through this initiative I have produced greater efficiencies for the organisation.
E-newsletter: I developed and designed an intelligent weekly e-newsletter allowing individual members to receive information relevant to them. Due to understanding our members’ preferences, corporate sponsors have taken a greater interest as they are able to identify their market.
Accessibility: I have taken the lead on creating an accessible website for all users. This has involved complex use of Cascading Style Sheets, adhering to web standards and creation of alternatives for any rich media content. This has also led to an expertise in browser compatibility.
January 2005 – Present: Freelance web design projects
MA Textiles: Collaboration with a graphic designer and photographer to produce an interactive flash based website for students at Chelsea College of Art.
Rapid Banta: Use of an open source content management system to create an online community for a local Sunday league football team.
Edinburgh Hebrew Congregation: Design and development of an informative site for the Jewish community in Edinburgh.
